Last season, a Torrance team advanced to the World Series and made it to the finals.
The World Series, for players 13-15 years old and under, will be held Aug. 10-26 in Jamestown, New York.
“We only allowed two runs in four games (in the regionals),” coach Harrison Mingham said. “We pride ourselves on our defense and pitching and doing the little things right. These kids have practiced three hours a day for the past five weeks and I’m super proud of how far we’ve come.”
Mingham graduated from Torrance High, where he is currently a freshman baseball and JV soccer coach. The team’s assistant coaches are Logan Young, Chris Bui and Ken Tori.
At the States tournament, which took place in Torrance at Kendall Field, Torrance defeated Los Altos (18-0), El Segundo (4-2), Westchester (7-1) and El Segundo again in the championship (11-1).
The World Series games begin Aug. 13. Torrance is scheduled to leave for the tournament on Aug. 9. A GoFundMe has been created to help raise funds for the team’s travel and stay. As of Wednesday morning, more than $10,000 had been raised.
